Methods of Communication
 
Gang members communicate in many different ways utilizing oral and nonverbal methods of communication. While street slang is the most apparent, gangs use symbols, markings, graffiti, tattoos, clothing, jewelry and hand signs to communicate to each other and those in the community.

Below are different examples of how some gangs communicate using the different methods.

Bloods

CK Riding - Crip Killing

Avoid using words that start with the letter “C”

“Let’s get this money” - Let’s go to kill someone

Piru -  a street in L.A. where the gang originated

 “Blatt Blatt” - Blood Land And Territory

“Blood” and “Where dat red be like?” - Hello

“Dogs” - other Blood members

Damu - “Blood” in Swahili

DAMU - Brother/Blood

Damuette - Female Blood

“Baby love”- money

10-20 or SP - superior in the Bloods

Pub or Peanut - a pledge

Big Homey - Leader

911 -a meeting

Stack - $1,000

On the menu/labeled “food” - someone who will be seriously beaten or murdered

Roscoes - police

Roll or peter roll - a serious assault/murder

Twelve - to speak

On point - preparation for retaliation

Red - right or understood

Mission - violent act

Birthday boy - individual who will soon be robbed

Birthday party - a robbery

Bloodette - female blood member

OG - Original Gangster

OYG - Original Young Gangster

YG - Young Gangster

Crippin’ - the Crip gangbanging culture

Avoid using words that start with the letter “B”

C-Walking - a set of dance moves

Slobs - derogatory term for Bloods

Loco – crazy

CAT - Crippin’ All the time

Dead rag - blood

Flamed U - Individual wearing the color red

The Crips is real - The Crips is all-powerful

BK - Blood Killer

LOC - Love Only Crips

Playa - individual who earns respect

“OG”-original gangster; gang member who has put down a foundation for the building of the gang and is known as one of the first generation gang members

 “gank”- to steal

 “Buy their store”- trade contraband

“Lock it up”-ask for protective custody

“Walked the line”- entered general population

“Transferred keys”- handed over control

“Validate”- initiate

“In the hat”- marked for murder

“Place”-Tatoo

 “Butsters”-posers

“Lung Tao”- Wah Ching leader

“Mad Dog”-stare down rival

“FOB”- fresh off the boat

“Doing dirt”- committing crimes

“Dome”-shoot in the head

“Wig shopping”- head hunting

“Put on the hood”-bloody beat in

“Floss”- show off
